Watering a new native berm of pines, spruce and boulders at golden hour

Irrigation repair and winterization in Flagstaff.

Leaks, broken heads, drip lines and timers fixed, then blown out before the hard freeze so nothing cracks over winter. Winter watering keeps trees alive through dry months.

Winterize before the hard freeze

Flagstaff routinely drops well below freezing from October on. Water left in lines, valves and backflow preventers freezes, expands and cracks them, and you find out in May. A compressed air blowout clears every zone so the system survives winter. Book it as soon as overnight lows start dipping into the 20s.

Repairs

  • Leaking valves, broken heads and cracked lines
  • Drip line repairs and emitter replacement
  • Zones that will not turn on or will not shut off
  • Timer replacement and programming, including smart timers
  • Low pressure and coverage problems

Winter watering

Our winters are dry and windy between storms. Evergreens and newly planted trees can dry out and brown even while the ground is cold. A deep watering visit once or twice a month on warmer days keeps roots alive until spring.

Diagnosing browning trees

Browning is usually water, soil or root problems, not a reason to replace the plant. We check irrigation, soil moisture and branches before recommending anything.

Questions

Irrigation, answered.

When should I winterize my sprinklers in Flagstaff?

Usually early to mid October, or as soon as overnight lows start hitting the 20s. Earlier is safer than later.

How much does sprinkler winterization cost?

From $165 for a typical residential system.

Do I need to water trees in winter in Flagstaff?

Yes, especially new and evergreen trees. Water on a day above 40 degrees when the ground is not frozen, about once or twice a month without snow cover.

Can you install a drip system?

We repair and extend drip and install timers. Larger new irrigation installs are quoted as part of a landscape project.
